The Writers Guild of America approved a strike starting Monday and here's how it will effect Ellen and Portia's appearances.

-The Ellen Degeneres Show will continue to air new episodes but with a few changes (see the end of this blog for some of the possible changes).

-Ellen's appearance on The Tonight Show With Jay Leno will be cancelled.

-Portia's appearance on Live With Regis and Kelly will not be affected by the strike.

Here's a excerpt from Broadcastingcable.com

Most syndicated shows don't employ guild writers, and if they do, they have already made significant contingency plans.

Warner Bros.' The Ellen DeGeneres Show, for example, has several guild writers on staff, all of whom will strike. DeGeneres herself is a member, but she's also a member of the Screen Actors Guild, and she's hired as a performer, not a writer, on the show. So she'll keep producing shows, possibly with more improvisation, more celebrity interviews and fewer written segments.

“We're definitely going to do the show and Ellen feels confident in her ability to do it,” says one Warner Bros. executive.

Re: The Effects of The Writer's Strike

Ellen DeGeneres fans are delighted that her show is syndicated and will continue as usual during the writers' strike. If not, we would all be going through withdrawal pain.

Re: The Effects of The Writer's Strike

I am so happy that Ellen will continue to tape, I have tickets for thursdays show and I was almost in tears when I heard that Jay Leno would be re-runs and I thought she would fall in the same category! I am coming from Chicago for my 40th and I just can't wait to see her she is so awesome! More improv from her no problem!!!

Ellen should stand with her fellow writers if she is WGA. She is a scab otherwise. Shame on her.

Re: The Effects of The Writer's Strike

Scab Ellen has no morals she is a selfish person to cross a picket line for her own selfish ereasons just like the B.S. from the dog regift (she has done several times before) She disapoints me with her me first. it will come back to her.

Re: The Effects of The Writer's Strike

I am very upset that Ellen would cross a picket line. She has lost me as a fan.

Re: The Effects of The Writer's Strike

I'm not going to judge Ellen on her ability to write her own show. The strike seem to be doing just fine. But Honestly they will keep many starving actors out of work. Now who's selfish?? Franlky, Ellens crew ans staff are crossing the line with her. I'm sure it's a choice they were all involved in.

Re: The Effects of The Writer's Strike

Wake up people!

she's under contract as a " performer" not a writer. If she doesn't perform, not only does she lose her job, Warner Bros would sue the pants off her for breaking her contract. She's already said that the show would consist of Celebrity interviews ( no writing involved for that- just winging it)
She's doing everything in her power to HELP her employees keep their much needed jobs. If she were to strike, they wouldn't have a job to come back to once the strike is over ( and we all know it will be). She's not being selfish, she's doing what she has to do for the sake of her employees, Warner Bros, and herself.
