The Golden Globes were nearly cancelled due to the writers strike but that didn't stop Ellen and Portia from having their own awards show

Ellen DeGeneres and girlfriend Portia de Rossi joked that they'd be holding their own private gala on Sunday night. "We're giving each other awards," said DeGeneres. "We're pretending we're up for things, getting all dressed up in the living room and taking pictures: 'Portia, single shot!' And we have a little round table, and we drink and eat like we're at the Globes. We pretend we have an awards show."

In a new survey that was released today Ellen has become America's favorite star and kicked Oprah out of the # 1 spot that she has held for the last five years.

Breaking News!

Ellen won both of the catagories that she was nominated for! The catogories are Favorite Talk Show Host and Favorite Funny Female Star. This is the fourth year in a row that Ellen has won!

The People's Choice Awards will air tonight (1-8-2008) and Ellen is nominated for Favorite Talk Show Host and Favorite Funny Female Star (Ellen won both catagories last year).

The awards show will air at 9pm EST on CBS.
